Ok...it's been a long time - but here's an update!

1. Do 5 genuinely nice, out-of-the-ordinary, out-of-your-way things for other people.
This has been one of my favorite goals on the list. I think I've gone well beyond 5 (and I plan to continue) but here have been some of my favorites:
a) I was on the longest line EVER at Denny's childrenswear and there was a little girl sitting in a stroller behind me. She was just being SO good - really a well-behaved kid. We finally got towards the front of the line and she asked her mom for a quarter to go to those junk machines. She must've asked about 6 times and mom just wasn't paying attention. So...I gave her as many quarters as I had in my wallet. Totally worth it.
b) We had a few extra slices of Lombardi's pizza when we went on our self-made pizza tour. I honestly tried (for many many blocks) to track down a homeless person to give them to. I couldn't find one. Charity fail.
c) I was running late to class, but stopped and offered to help someone having problems with parallel parking by shouting directions to them through their window. Eventually they realized I sucked at that and did it on their own, but I tried!
d) A man dropped his book at The Strand and I bent down to pick it up for him. I stood up to hand it back and I saw his eyes roll back in his head and he fell on me, then the bookshelf nearby, then the floor. And clutched his left arm and chest. Then I went on my 1st date ever with Max (ok, I did wait around to make sure he was being taken care of).

2. Walk in the Lupus Walk-a-Thon.
Eisenhower Park, Oct 17. Mark the date!!

3. Go on a NYC walking tour with your friends.
We made our own NYC Pizza Tour! It was awesome! And Lombardi's is my favorite :-)

4. Send Ari a care package to Israel before he actually comes home.
I'm changing this to Cincinnati. I think that's still acceptable :-)

6. Lose 15 lbs.
Yeah, no.

9. Give up cheese for one whole month.
DONE!!!

10. Go to yoga at least twice a week for 3 months.
I had to take a break because of the burn and the sprain. Will return shortly.

11. Read 7 new books that you're not afraid to admit to others you've read.
So far:
White Noise by Don Delillo, Bonk by Mary Roach, In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan
Getting my Kindle in a week so that should help!

13. Learn about red wines.
EPIC WIN! I now like reds better than whites

15. Make a tiered birthday cake.
I'm gonna count the boob cake. It was tiered and it was AWESOME.

17. Finish the shawl.
I've actually been working on it. This thing will go on forever.

18. Crochet a rainbow yarmulke for Ari.
I knitted it, but it is done and blocking on a cereal bowl.

19. Finish mom's scarf.
Been working on it. God it's awful.

21. Go to wineries that aren't on Long Island.
Went to ones in Hudson Valley and Chicago.

22. Don't go on AIM for a month.
Oh man, forgot about this one...ok, I can implement this one soon. Thank goodness for gchat ;-)

23. Put $5,000 into savings.
This isn't going to happen. I just can't do it with classes and the cruise. Sad day.

6. Lose 15 lbs.
Down 4 lbs! Does it matter if it's because I'm sick?

9. Give up cheese for one whole month.
Still goin strong! This may also have to do with why I've lost 4 lbs....

4. Send Ari a care package to Israel before he actually comes home.
I sent an email to the friends and am planning on getting everything together for when I get home from Chicago.

8. Participate in a marathon - even if you're not really trying to win.
Taking a "Learning to Run" class with Meghan - anyone else wanna come? Yes, it seems silly...but I think it could be a good way to start.

Learn to Run - Sports Apparel Discounts & Happy Hour Prices - FREE

Are you ready to learn how to run? Yea.. learn. There is actually a lot to know about running. People run for so many reasons: Fresh air, exercise, friends, accomplishment, and to eat like a pig when you’re done running.

Some of you may even have a goal to run a marathon (awesome). In 2008 I literally ran for the first time (not counting running for the train), I didn’t think I would ever be able to do it, but I did! Not to mention I had a ton of fun doing it. (See my Journal here)

9. Give up cheese for one whole month.
This will start as soon as I get back from Chicago, April 5 - May 5 (celebration of Cinco de Mayo quesadillas!!)

11. Read 7 new books that you're not afraid to admit to others you've read.
I finished White Noise!! I'm now a couple pages into Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. Totally not embarrassed by either - I'm on my way!

21. Go to wineries that aren't on Long Island.
Did it AGAIN! Went to a winery in Chicago (why on earth are there wineries here???) I had a sample of blackberry wine and bought a pear (!!!) wine. Excited!

23. Put $5,000 into savings.
Does it count if it's money from new loans? I did just get an upgrade in job status, though - so that should help. I'm now doing birthday parties for the science company and that upgrades me from $40/hr to $50 PLUS tips ($20-$80 usually) - HOORAY! I'm also going to be working at the JCC doing an art/science program part time in the summer and part time doing the science day camp (so 30 hrs a week, regularly, for 7-8 weeks). This should mean good money-making for meeeee!

30. Do something, purely for the story.
I'm in Chicago right now, visiting Rob. I don't know how much this is entirely for a story, and how much is for just life happiness...but there is definite story potential here. To be built upon...

Semi-progress!

2. Walk in the Lupus Walk-a-Thon.
I found info! It's May 1 in the city. I will be there. Who's coming with?

11. Read 7 new books that you're not afraid to admit to others you've read.
Alllllmost done with White Noise by Don Delillo. Fantastic book. I already have Bonk and Gravity's Rainbow on the bookshelf, waiting to be read during Spring Break.

21. Go to wineries that aren't on Long Island.
Success! My first ACTUAL thing checked off the list! I went to the Hudson Valley wineries. For the most part, they sucked - but I went!

A new goal!

I have decided to listen to, and try to appreciate, the following:

1) Radiohead
b) The Smiths

That is all.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Being sick has put a damper on the ability to work on the goals this week. I did lose 2.5 lbs because I'm only able to eat bland carbs though! Hooray for body and fitness goals!

Annnddddd...GO!

Was talking to Meghan today about the list. She seemed particularly interested in the body goals and suggested our little group forms a type of support network for exercise and fitness. I'm all for it. I'm trying to slowly get rid of all the crap food in my house. Unfortunately, that means eating most of it - but also not replenishing! Since I love lists to an almost pathological extent, I decided to list the foods of greatest weakness to me and decide which ones can stay and which gotta go.

1. candy (most specifically, black licorice crows and sour patch kids) - NOT OK
2. low fat fig newmans - OK (3 a day, which is 1 serving)
3. honey - OK (a teaspoon in unsweetened greek yogurt - none in tea)
4. chocolate - EHHHH (allowed when pms-ing, or i'll explode, but really try to cut down)
5. chai from starbucks - EHHHH (it's not as bad as other things...let's go with once a week, which is about what I do now anyway)

I'm trying to consciously keep my bondas engaged so I can build up that core strength (mind you, I've been trying to do this since about 4 pm today, so let's see how long this ACTUALLY lasts). Meghan said she'd help me try to get into headstand while she gets into (gulp) *scorpion*. Yeah, I'm never gonna be that cool. That's ok - it's only Tuesday and I've already been to yoga once this week! Gonna try for tomorrow too. Woot!
